First week Malawi

I write this in English, but you will soon find a mixture of English, Norwegian an Dutch in our Blog!
It was a huge leap from cold Norway (minus 20 deg C) to the warm and humid january climate in Malawi. The first week has been so exciting and positive. We have been taken well care of by the collegues at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) Our Norwegian representativeNicole(she is actually German) has done a fabulous job in showing us around and helping us with the "normal" obstacles you experience when you start to work in a country so different from your own.
I have been adressed to take care of the orthopaedic patients in KCH. I must say that this first week I have seen more rare cases than you normally encounter in a European environment during a whole surgical career.. That applies to complicated fractures, tumours and not the least infections. I will give more detailed information over this subject later.
We have not have time to explore the beautiful Malawian nature and wildlife. The malawians call themselves "the warm heart of Africa", and I believe they are right!

Pictures will appear later, when we hae a more speedy internet connection!
